Shawnee Marching Band Wins New Jersey State Marching Band Title
The Shawnee Marching Band won the USSBA
Group 3 Open Championship Saturday in Old Bridge, NJ. Shawnee beat 13
other Group 3 Open class bands, the highest level of competition
offered by the United States Scholastic Bands Association. The band
scored a 94.838, edging out top 5 finishers Montville, Rancocas
Valley, Williamstown, and Old Bridge.
The USSBA divides their bands into
groups by band size, and then divides their bands into two separate
classifications. The Open Class, which is for bands that have
established themselves as the elite, and the A Class which according
to USSBA guidelines is
generally for bands in the process of building a program. Overall,
Shawnee was the best of 32 Group III bands from across the state.
Shawnee has had a very successful year
performing their show the “Greatest Show on Turf. In addition to their
State Championship title, they also won the USSBA’s Yamaha Cup held
three weeks ago at MetLife Stadium which featured 57 bands from all
over the North East region.
Up next for the Marching Renegades will
be the National Championships held at the Naval Academy in Annapolis,
Maryland on November 13th.
